We would probably all agree on the fact that when you travel to a new city, we all look for a viewpoint so we can enjoy the view over the whole city. Viewpoints are on everyone’s list when traveling because they give you a completely different perspective on the city. In this text, we will make it easier for you and make a list of the best viewpoints across the city and around it, so you are ready for your upcoming vacation.
The first one would have to be the bell tower of Saint Domnius Cathedral. This iconic viewpoint will not only provide you with the best view, but you will also have the experience of climbing the old bell tower inside a Diocletian palace. Also, there is an entrance fee, and you can buy the tickets right across the church in the tourist board office. But remember that the climb is very narrow and steep, so if you are afraid of small spaces, this one is not for you. But don’t worry, there are more viewpoints just as spectacular as this one.

One of them is on Marjan Hill, there are actually several viewpoints across the whole of Marjan Hill, but the best ones are Vidilica and Telegrin Peak. The whole of Marjan Hill is kind of a viewpoint, what’s special about Marjan Hill viewpoints is that you are surrounded by beautiful and untouched nature overlooking the city of Split and the Adriatic sea.

Furthermore, there is one that is also surrounded by untouched nature with an overlook of the Adriatic Sea, and it is called Sustipan. Sustipan is a park where you can have a picnic or have a morning coffee on the bench looking straight into the Adriatic sea. It is free of charge, you can come and walk around or even spend the whole day hanging out with your friends and family. Those are the best viewpoints in the city of Split, and now let’s go a little bit outside of the city…
These viewpoints are approximately 30 minutes to 2 hours’ drive distance from the city of Split.
So, let’s start with viewpoint Fortica, which is a fortress located in Omiš city, it is approximately a 40-minute drive from Split. This fortress is located at a height of 303 meters and it has a beautiful view of the Adriatic Sea, the Adriatic islands, and the canyon of the river Cetina. It is important to have a good pair of hiking shoes and plenty of water with you for this 45-minute hike. Also, bear in mind that it is not recommended to go during the day hours when the sun is high; rather, go early in the morning or later in the evening to watch a sunset, for example. There is also an entrance fee, but you won’t be sorry to pay it after you take some fantastic photos.

Very close distance from Fortica and Omiš, you may enjoy a view of the whole canyon and Omiš. There is not only a viewpoint but also a statue of a heroine, Mila Gojsalić, which is an artwork of one of the most famous sculptors, Ivan Meštrović. It is located on the road Gata-Omiš, in the first kilometer, on the left side, there is a stone-concrete plateau. This viewpoint is a popular one also, it attracts numerous photographers as well as tourists and locals.

Now, a bit farther, there is a famous skywalk in the Biokovo hills. It is located above the City of Makarska, and it gives you a beautiful view of the Adriatic coast. Be sure that you booked your ticket in advance. People are crazy about this place, and it is recommended to go early in the morning or later in the day. There is a ticket fee and various tours in Biokovo, such as quad tours or hiking tours during which it is possible to see wild horses and other animals living there, and still see the beautiful view from another place in Biokovo. There are also a lot of little viewpoints along the road on your way to Biokovo, which are the best spots to stop in the summertime to watch a sunset or a sunrise.

And now on the other side of Split, there is a spectacular viewpoint on the Klis Fortress. It is an approximate 20-minute drive from the old town of Split, it is an excellent place to view the area and fun to explore. Once you’ve arrived, there’s a small fee to enter the fortress. It’s worth every penny for the views and the sheer historical vibe of the place. It is filled with many stone paths, stairs, and narrow indoor walkways, near the top of the fortress you will see the flag of Croatia, and next to that spot is one of the best viewpoints of the fortress for watching the sunset. It is also popular as a Game of Thrones filming location for the fictional city-state of Meereen. They shot it both there and in Diocletian’s Palace in Split. You can easily spend a few hours walking around the Klis fortress. There’s also a small church, a museum, and a room dedicated to Game of Thrones memorabilia. Klis fortress is open daily. Whether you’re an early riser ready to catch the sunrise or looking for that perfect midday sun to light up your photos, it is open every day from 8:30 am until 8:30 pm. Your camera is going to love it here. The fortress is a haven for photographers with its Viewpoints offering panoramic views of the Split area and the Adriatic Sea.
