Welcome to Split, the second largest city in Croatia, surrounded by beautiful sea and mountains. Split is a city full of attractions, a rich and interesting history and a beautiful coastline. It is known for its unique architecture and relaxed Mediterranean spirit. So, we want to introduce you to some of the main attractions that you should visit.

ATTRACTIONS IN SPLIT

  1. Diocletian’s palace – the most important landmark of Split. Built in the 4th century by the Roman Emperor Diocletian as his retirement residence, the palace is a true marvel of ancient architecture. But what makes it special is the fact that it is not just a historical landmark, life still pulsates within its walls.
  2. In the center of the palace there is a Peristyle – the central square of the palace. Today it is one of the most photogenic places in Split, often hosting concerts, theatre performances and traditional “Dalmatian klapa” singing. So, in addition to taking photos, you can also enjoy music. Its excellent acoustics and imposing ancient columns make it extraordinary.
  3. Right next to the Peristyle stands the Cathedral of Saint Domnius, the oldest cathedral in the world. It is located in the complex of Diocletian’s Palace, and was originally an imperial mausoleum. You can also visit the cathedral bell tower, where you will be greeted by a beautiful panoramic view of the city and sea.
  4. Inside Diocletian’s Palace is another interesting attraction – the narrowest street in Split. This charming street is so narrow that it is impossible for two people to pass each other. The name of this street perfectly describes its function because when two people are inside at the same time, someone has to say: “let me pass”.
  5. In front of the golden gates of Diocletian’s Palace is a monument to Gregory of Nin-the work of sculptor Ivan Meštrović. According to legend, touching his big toe brings good luck and the fulfillment of wishes.
  6. To take a break from everything, the best thing to do is take a walk along the Riva – the heart of the Split. On the Split Riva you will feel the real energy of the city. It is the perfect place to drink coffee and a place for meeting, celebrating and socializing. Here you can actually feel the rhythm of Dalmatian life. And while you drink coffee and enjoy the sun, in front of you is a perfect view of the harbor and the islands in the distance.
  7. Located right next to Riva, Prokurative or Republic Square, is one of the most beautiful architectural gems in Split. Prokurative is today known as the cultural center of the city, hosting concerts, festivals and various artistic events, the most famous of which is the Split Pop Music Festival. In addition to its history and culture, Prokurative is also a great place for relaxation.
  8. For sports fans, Poljud Stadium is a must – see. This impressive stadium is home to Hajduk, a Split – based football club with a long tradition and passionate fans. Locals also call it the Poljud Beauty, and Hajduk’s fan group is called Torcida. It’s a special experience to watch a game on the field with the fans, but if you can’t, at least take a look inside and feel the spirit of the club, which is the Split way of life.
  9. Just a few minutes walk from the city center, there is Bačvice – the most famous beach in Split. This shallow sandy bay is famous for Picigin, a game that has been passed down from generation to generation. Regardless of the time of year, you can always see people jumping in the shallows, throwing a ball to each other.
  10.  Marmontova Street is one of the city’s main pedestrian thoroughfares, connecting the Riva with the city center. Today it is a favorite place for walking, shopping or simply observing busy city life, where tradition and modernity are perfectly intertwined. There is a famous fish market, where local fishermen offer their fresh catch. So, whether you are looking for a souvenir, food, a fashion accessory, Marmontova Street is an unmissable place in Split.
